Hello, I am a long time professional classical singer who has recently moved into pop.

I am seeking collaborations with other established songwriters, who have had professional placements and sync deals and who might need a voice that sounds like mine for a demo, co-write, or performance. I also write great lyrics and my top-lining abilities are coming along quite well. My genre is pop, folk, country, indie- pop.

Thanks Scott. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I wanted to get a copyright in place & it has finally come through. It was just something I wanted to do. Thank you for the encouragement. Memphis is a great music town & I hope I can connect with someone local.

One person who mentored me didn't validate collaboration. Yeah, he was that good.
He wrote music, and taught music. He thought Jazz was random insanity, and Prince was like a screaming cat he. couldn't listen to. However, even though he taught me a great deal about music. I now am of the opinion that in popular music collaboration sounds like a fun thing with lots of possibilities. Let's rock it.

Laurie Stevens Odd. I mean each creative type has his own brand of genius. If we all shared the same passions and talents, the creative world would be stagnant. But, I consider jazz the thinking man's music. And Prince was this amazing amalgam of everything cool (James Brown, Jimi Hendrix and so many more) who, nevertheless made his music utterly his own. Have you seen his tribute to George Harrison where he does the solo on My Guitar Gentle Weeps?

I mean, if not for collaboration, the world would be without the otherwordly talent of The Beatles. No thanks.

That being said, I'm a total loner. I despise having to work with others. But, when I do, my work is improved. Plus, I grow my skills in learning to work with people -- something I desperately need.

I see life as a massive school. We're here to learn lessons. I need to learn to work with others and value their differentness and all that offers. Maybe your mentor needs to learn to rely on himself. Sounds like it works for him.

There is another reason to consider co-writing though -- and that's the ability to draw on another's networking contacts. Each of can make just so many connections. Combined, we make more. Just my two cents. 3 years ago

Laurie Stevens Ah, would that I had time. The most I get to do these days is play a bit of piano and noodle around. Unfortunately I have no less than seven web sites that I'm behind on creating. My times is spoken for for the next 8-9 months. But, I will put the call out for you via social media. 3 years ago

Laurie Stevens One of the major reasons we're opening free memberships is because we want to increase the likelihood that members can find others with whom they can co-write. I think virtual collaboration is so much easier now there's no reason NOT to consider it. I'm sure being in the same room allows for riffing off one another in a very intimate way but with things like Skype, you can still grab some of that intimate feel.

I think of when Bush the junior placed Cat Stevens (I don't know how to spell his Muslim name) on the no-fly list (yeah, the guy who wrote Peace Train was on the no travel list -- talk about irony). Anyway, Dolly Parton reportedly wrote him and collaborated with him virtually. So, this is definitely an idea whose time has come. Hi Kristen. I am not certain how many active Members' Studio members are located around Pennsylvania. However, we have nearly 4,000 members in our database. If you'd like, I can do an e-mail blast to our entire list and see if we can find someone looking to collaborate. It would help us to craft the email if we have some links to your work. We would also need to know what you're seeking, specifically (a lyricist, composer, mixer, producer... etc) PLUS we will need a contact email for you.

That's a very good question! I co-write every day here in Nashville and the rule of thumb is that the song is divided by the number of writers... 2 writers equals 50/50... But just because that is customary doesn't mean it is written in stone. I don't know of a specific .doc file that we have for an agreement between two writers except for an agreement we have concerning the mechanical rate in the case of one writer being subject to a 'controlled compososition' clause in his/her recording...
